Sahara Energy Announces Major Rig Acquisitions, Targets 350,000 Barrels Per Day Output

Sahara Energy’s recent landmark achievements include the acquisition of seven new offshore rigs and the launch of the Iyalode MKT (MT Iyaloja Lagos) LPG vessel, both of which are set to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape. The rigs, two already operational and more arriving soon are managed by Arahas Global Oilfield Services, a Sahara Group subsidiary, and will support both drilling and workover activities for oil and gas. This expansion is central to Sahara’s plan to boost production to at least 350,000 barrels per day of oil and 1,000,000 MMScf/d of gas within five years, accelerating exploration, enhancing local content, and ensuring responsible resource development.

The Iyalode MKT vessel is Nigeria’s first wholly owned floating LPG vessel, marking a milestone in national infrastructure and energy independence. It will expand LPG supply capacity to 162,000 CBM, improving domestic access to clean cooking fuel and supporting export growth. These developments are part of Sahara’s broader “shared prosperity” approach, which emphasizes collaboration with host communities and government, aims to build local technical capacity, and positions Nigeria as a regional energy leader.

Together, these moves will increase Nigeria’s energy exports, stabilize domestic supply, attract investment, and boost operational efficiency, making a significant impact on the country’s energy sector and its role in Africa’s energy future.
